Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about processing files securely in your browser

How does the Paint & Erase PDF tool work?

This tool loads your PDF document and renders the pages onto HTML5 canvas elements locally. You can use the brush to draw, the eraser to white-out contents, or the rectangle tool to draw colored boxes or black-out redactions. When saved, the modified pages are compiled into a new PDF locally in your browser.

Are my documents secure when I paint or erase on them?

Yes, completely! Your PDF document is processed entirely in your local browser sandbox and never uploaded to any server. Your sensitive information is protected because the entire workflow operates offline.

Can I redact text permanently so it cannot be copied?

Yes. When you use the eraser or rectangle tools to white-out or black-out content on a page, those pages are flattened and rasterized into static images. This permanently destroys the underlying text layer, making it impossible for anyone to select, search, or recover the redacted information.

Will the original file structure of the PDF be preserved?

Yes! To optimize file size and quality, only the pages you actually draw or erase on are flattened into images. All other unedited pages are copied directly in their original vector format, retaining text searchability and crystal-clear scaling.
